Royal Caribbean Bringing New Stateroom Types to Icon of the Seas

If you have been on a cruise, especially several, we are sure that you are familiar with a cruise stateroom. In general, there are three major categories of cabin aboard a cruise ship; an interior cabin, an ocean view cabin, and a balcony cabin. Royal Caribbean has always had a flair for unique staterooms (just see the Boardwalk and Central Park balconies, Aqua Theater, Panoramic Suites, and Loft Suites), but they are taking the idea of stateroom to the next level on Icon of the Seas. Several of these staterooms blend seamlessly with the new neighborhoods on board and they all look like so much fun! There are several new cabin types that are designed with families in mind, which is great for those traveling with children. Check out some of them below and look at some of the first promotional images that have been released!

On Icon of the Seas there will be a jaw-dropping 2,805 staterooms, supporting 7,600 guests at maximum occupancy. There will be so much choice here, with 28 different stateroom layouts you can choose from. Several of these have been featured on Royal Caribbean ships before, but there are several new cabins we have not seen before. It is obvious that Royal Caribbean has designed Icon of the Seas with a fun playful vibe and some of the new staterooms definitely reflect that.

Surfside Family Suite

How fun does this look if you are brining your kids along on your next cruise vacation? These staterooms are apart of the new Surfside Neighborhood and will be located on the aft of the ship. They will feature a unique alcove for children to sleep that converts to a cozy hangout space for the entire family. This stateroom category will also include a private balcony. Since these will be suite rooms, you will be entitled to Royal suite class perks!

Inside Plus

The new inside plus cabins have a thoughtful and intuitive design, plus a lot a space for an interior cabin. The closet is now a walk in, just separated by a divider way making the cabin feel more open and airy. There are light colors and different furnishings that will really allow you to maximize the space in your interior cabin.

Family Infinite Balcony

Of all the new rooms offered on Icon of the Seas, the Family Infinite Balcony might be our favorite. It’s packed with features you don’t often see on a cruise ship. This room is definitely meant for children and you can tell that by looking at the layout. There is a fun alcove for them to sleep or hangout in. There are perpendicular bunk beds, each with their own TV and nooks to store toys or other items. There is a split bathroom layout, allowing different members of the family to be using the shower and sink side, while someone else is using the toilet and sink side. This is a great feature for families sharing one cabin. However the coolest feature has to be the infinite balcony itself. The infinite balcony is a fun living space that will allow outside air in with the touch a button. In seconds you can go from a panoramic view window, to a balcony. How cool is that?!

Panoramic Ocean View Suites

A few ships have featured one or two of these types of rooms, but they have been completely reimagined for Icon of the Seas. Thanks to the floor to ceiling windows, these rooms are the best seats in the house. These will be great for windy/chilly days or cruises to cold weather climates. We love all the comfy furnishings, and the fact that you can watch the water (and the day!) go by right from the comfort of your bed! This might also be a great option for families traveling on Icon of the Seas. With this cabin, you will still have an amazing view without having to worry about children making their way onto the balcony unsupervised.

Ultimate Family Townhouse

Perhaps the most incredible offering of new staterooms is the Ultimate Family Townhouse. This 1700 square feet, 3 level stateroom, is breathtaking. It features a fun slide for the kiddos, a wrap around balcony off the living space, a private hot tub, a balcony off the bedroom, and even your very own movie theater. One of the coolest features is the private entrance you will have to the surfside neighborhood! We are anxiously waiting to see this room in person, and check out the pricing.
