Upstairs, a spacious loft provides additional sleeping for five along with a half bath and elevated views of the water. What inspired you to create Rustic Retreats?
Leon and I have a long-standing love of all things real estate. We wanted to find a way to spend more time with our families and be able to quit our 9-5 jobs and thought that perhaps other people would love Moose Lodge as much as we did. We started out slow and started renting it out on the weekends and then moving back in during the week. That got old really fast! Moose Lodge turned out to be a hit and it was rented every weekend. We decided that this was a viable plan and started working on building Turkey Run as a second rental and moved out of Moose Lodge for good. It was sad to leave that home as we were very attached to it, but it was also a very exciting time!
Are there any unique themes or stories behind any of the properties that you would like to share?
Leon and I built Moose Lodge in 2005 as our dream home. We poured our heart and soul into this home and during the 10 years that we lived there, we had 3 beautiful daughters. This home will always be extra special to us!
What makes your properties different from other rentals in the area?
I think it's important that we self-manage and that we are local. We really care about quality and comfort and are in these homes every week making sure that the quality is always top notch!
What is the most challenging aspect of putting together these rentals? What is the most rewarding?
It takes a surprising amount of coordination to keep up on ordering supplies and to make sure everything is always in good working order. I absolutely love it when guests reach out and tell me things like "we will remember this vacation forever" and "We made unforgettable memories in your home!" It humbles me and makes me so happy that I can in a small way be a part of that. What is more important than creating unforgettable memories with your loved ones?
Are there any unique amenities that you are proud of?
All of our homes have great outdoor spaces. They feel private, secluded and drenched in nature. I also think that our homes excel above other rentals in the area in the quality of our finishes and decor/furniture. These things make a big difference in feeling like you're at your home away from home.
What kind of experiences would you like guests to walk away with after staying with Rustic Retreats?
Our hope is that people leave refreshed and rejuvenated with hearts full of new, special memories of time well spent together.
Any plans for the future that you would like our readers to know about? Any new listings coming soon?
Yes! We are building! The new home will be a barndominium style home complete with THE most amazing game room! It will have all the normal game room things like video games, big screen TV's, a bar, pool table, darts etc. But, the big news??? It will also have a half court indoor basketball court and and pickleball court! We are SO excited to see this come together! We will also have a hot tub outside and a lovely paved fire pit all situated on 5 acres just north of the Dells. This home will be suitable for larger groups with 4 bathrooms and 5 bedrooms plus a loft. We are hoping to open sometime in the spring of 2027
